The Promised Land

Successful Brothers,

"I don't know what to say really 10 minutes away from the biggest battle of my academic life and we're scared right now; now we can either stay scared or we can fight our way out of fear back into the light. "

Yes the promised land! What else is there to call it? A twelve year battle has now come to it's climax. The crescendo has been reached. I'm the point in my life I have been fighting for since I joined the Freedom Project six years ago, College!
As I exit my first class I can not help but feel ready. I know this is where I am suppose to be. As hard as it is to leave I understand that this, for now,for the school year, is my life purpose. Me!
College strangely enough is the place that fits me. It is the third place I feel at home.
The lesson in this story for all Successful Brothers is that life, like everything else, has many purposes for many time periods. Your job is the find your purpose for this time period and complete it! Often easier said than done. For some of us our purpose is obvious: complete 8th grade or graduate high school. For others of us, our purpose is hidden or confused and it takes a little longer for us to realize what they are. They are mixed in with all the other things we want to do with our lives and the people we want to impact. They are choices and life altering decisions that we must make no matter how hard it is, but rest assured there is a purpose. Somewhere? For most of them, purposes I mean, you find them one piece at a time far away from where you started and when the puzzle is finished you understand.
The Promised Land! Yes, the Promised Land. I love it! It is the next piece of my puzzle. What I've been fighting for. The Promised Land!Hallelujah The promised Land!

Successful Brothers Assignment!

I would like each Successful Brother to write no less then a one and a half page paper explaining their purpose right now. Also, I would like you to explain the purpose of Successful Brothers and maybe the Freedom Project into detail about each one. The last project of the summer you where asked to write about your intention in life. Explain how your purpose right now helps that. Mail it to Chris Perkins, CPO 1081, 101 Chestnut Street, Berea KY,40404-0001

Helpful Hint: Your Purpose does not have to be anything huge or impacting. Purpose is just something you have to do for a Reason! E-mail me with questions brothersofsuccess@gmail.com. Or at yahoo

Being a LEADer

Successful Brother Donald Moore, reflects on the leadership class he took through the Freedom Project this past summer. Freedom Project students spent one week at the University of Mississippi taking elective classes taught by Freedom Project staff.

"At Ole Miss this year we took two classes and one that I took is a class called Life and Leadership. Mr. McCoy and Mr. Perkins taught this class and it teaches you how to be and have leadership qualities. This class will help you in life through some hard times. You can show leadership by leading by example. Instead of saying it you show how to be a good leader.
Another good quality is being a good teammate: working together and helping those who need help. The last quality is that you can be trusted by others and that you can take care of things when you are in charge. You also should be able to help people when they are doing wrong.
One activity we did was this game called Cross Roads. This game is all about teamwork and getting everybody across the roads. In this game we had to communicate with each other. When we started off, we always got stuck and had to start everything over. What we were doing wrong is that we didn't think alike. But at the end we finally came together.
Overall, leadership qualities are good to have and to use in life to help you during the hard times. Try to be the best leader and help out your friends.
